LIP was a horological manufacturer active from its 1867 roots to about 1977. Originally founded in France as a clock workshop by Emmanuel Lipman, LIP developed a following over the years which included numerous notable politicians one of whom was U.S. President Eisenhower. However, things took a turn for the worse in the late 1960s and by the 1970s LIP was becoming more and more well known for its complicated company politics. That being said, many of the most beloved watches in its history were created during its height of unrest even as its own workers protested and decided to occupy the factory at all times. They received community support with over twelve thousand protesters demonstrating in their honor. After this support they made the decision to continue to produce the watches themselves.
