Byzantine Gold Solidus, Theodosius I, Missorium, 379-395 CE

This ornate silver dish, a Missorium, was found broken but obviously of high artistic quality, and given to some worthy subject by the Emperor. He is credited with a revival of classical art known as the Theodosian Renaissance.
