Heraclius in 615 CE introduced the 6 gram silver Hexagram. In 720 Leo III made the larger diameter but much thinner 2 gram coin, as here, the Miliaresion, and, as an iconoclast, a believer that images of living things were forbidden by the Bible, used only text and graphics, which approach continued for the next two centuries.
