Emblem of Br. Somaliland, 1950-1960

The British rule in this decade was aimed at preparing Somaliland for independence, which was achieved, after the establishment of a legislative council and elections, on July 1, 1960 and unification with Somalia five days later. It split from Somalia in 1993 but as of the end of 2025 only Israel recognizes it.
