1. Northwest Territory. Capital Yellowknife on the north shore of Great Slave Lake. Pop. 44,000 made up of 11 ethnic groups.

2. Nunavut-our land-in Inuktitut, the Inuit language. Capital Iqaluit on Baffin Island. Pop. 33,000 of which 28,000 Inuit-Eskimo.

3. Yukon. Capital Whitehorse. Population 45,000. Site of a 1934 gold rush in the Klondike where gold was first discovered in 1896.
